Richard Slabbert
Founder
Richard Slabbert is the founder of Reclaim Ministries and lives in Somerset West in the Western Cape, near Cape Town. He is a software developer at a fintech company based in Stellenbosch, and is a member of Christ Church Somerset West, a REACH SA (Reformed Evangelical Anglican) congregation.
Richard has been a Christian since childhood. His parents led him to faith in Christ at a young age, and he has been walking with the Lord ever since — through the ordinary seasons of discipleship and through some of the harder ones too.
Reclaim Ministries was founded in early 2024, growing out of Richard's own experience as a same-sex attracted Christian. Having been significantly helped by True Freedom Trust — a UK charity offering peer support for SSA Christians — Richard and a close friend recognised a significant gap in South Africa. Local support for SSA Christians who hold to traditional biblical convictions was, and largely remains, almost nonexistent. Reclaim Ministries exists to change that.
Richard brings to this work both personal experience of the journey and a deep conviction that the church can and should do better at walking alongside SSA Christians. He is committed to building the kind of genuine, confidential community that he himself once needed — and that he believes the gospel calls the church to offer.
